Check your water tariff

There are different rates for water depending on how much water you use and whether or not you are on benefits and have a medical condition that means you need to use a lot of water.

Tariffs for medical needs – Watersure and Aquacare

These are special tariffs for customers on certain benefits and with a medical condition that requires them to use a lot of water. These tariffs mean you pay higher fixed charges but  lower or no water usage charges.This means that you can use the water you need without worrying about higher bills than expected.

Discounted tariffs

These offer a reduced water bill for households who are struggling to pay water bills

• Anglian Water offer LITE – the discount has to be applied for and you have to be on a water meter
• Cambridge Water offer the Assure tariff for households with an income of less than £16,105 a year. You do not have to be on a water meter.

Both water companies will also help customers who are struggling by checking if they are eligible for any charitable grants.

Using less water

Using less water will save you money on a water meter and helps the environment as well.

There are lots of different ways to save water

• Mend dripping taps
• Recycle water to use in the garden
• Only boil the water you need in the kettle
• Set a timer for your shower
• Turn of the tap when you brush your teeth
• Use a watering can not a hose in the garden
• Have a shower instead of a bath

Extra support for customers

If you are more vulnerable or have specific needs, e.g. help to read your meter or make your bills accessible, let your water company know. You can ask to go on a confidential register so that you get the services and help you need – especially in an emergency.
